Africa accelerates the expansion of its EV charging network
New projects are expanding electric mobility infrastructure across Africa, still mainly concentrated in major urban centres.
Electric mobility is gaining ground in Africa as charging stations become more widespread. Investment is initially focused on major cities and the busiest roads, where demand for zero-emission vehicles is strongest.
Growth remains uneven, however: high costs, an unstable power grid in some areas and long distances between communities are slowing progress. Expanding infrastructure will be crucial to making electric cars a genuinely accessible solution across the continent.
