Africa accelerates the rollout of electric-car charging
Public and private investment is expanding charging in African cities, bringing opportunities but also major infrastructure challenges.
Electric mobility is taking its first steps across Africa as new charging points appear, particularly in major cities and along key road corridors. Private companies, energy operators and institutions are testing solutions for cars, taxis and commercial fleets.
Growth remains uneven. Weak power grids, high costs, inconsistent standards and limited access to reliable electricity are slowing adoption. Faster progress will require coordinated investment, renewable-powered infrastructure and charging models tailored to local needs.
