Augmented-Reality Motorcycle Helmet Raises Safety Concerns
A new helmet with augmented-reality functions could display information before the rider’s eyes, but its design raises doubts.
Augmented reality is entering the motorcycle-helmet world through a concept that can place information over the rider’s field of view. The aim is to provide useful data while riding without forcing users to look at a smartphone or separate instruments.
However, the design raises questions: anything added in front of the eyes could reduce visibility, cause distraction or make it harder to read the road. Before production, the project will have to prove its safety, ergonomics and full regulatory compliance.
