Auto market slows in “golden September”, but remains resilient
A comparison with an exceptionally strong September weighs on annual growth, but the decline does not point to weak demand.
China’s car market is slowing during the traditional “golden September” sales season. The result looks less impressive than in the same month a year earlier, but the comparison is affected by an exceptionally high benchmark.
The decline therefore does not indicate a structural weakening. Sales remain supported, and the figures should be assessed in light of the previous September’s exceptional strength rather than used to draw premature conclusions about demand.
