Charging stations: Italy targets 50,000 points by 2027
The national plan steps up charging infrastructure, with record investment and new ultra-fast motorway stations.
Italy is stepping up its electric vehicle charging network. The new national plan provides for the installation of 50,000 public charging points by 2027, with total investment exceeding one billion euros between public and private funds.
Motorways will be the first beneficiaries: by next summer all service areas on the main routes will have at least one 300 kW ultra-fast station, capable of restoring 200 kilometres of range in about ten minutes. In cities, the focus will be on slow neighbourhood chargers designed for those who park on the street.
Industry operators welcome the plan but call for leaner authorisation procedures: today up to eighteen months can pass between project and activation.
