China slows auto exports as the market cleanup begins

For years, China’s car industry kept the accelerator down, flooding foreign markets with huge volumes and highly aggressive pricing. Beijing is now changing course: the goal is to cut excess capacity and rein in a sector that has become too fragmented and fiercely competitive.

The new clampdown aims to separate stronger players from weaker ones and curb tactics that fueled a price war. For Europe, including Italy, that could mean fewer unfiltered arrivals and less pressure on list prices, especially in the electric-car segment.
