Chinese brands reshape Africa’s car market
Used cars and financing are increasingly tied to Chinese automakers, while Africa’s industry reorganizes supply chains and dealerships.
Chinese brands are gaining ground in Africa not only through new vehicles, but also in the used-car market and in purchase-related financial services. The shift is redrawing the balance in many countries, where demand is growing but access to credit remains a major hurdle.
For local industry, the challenge is twofold: compete on price and strengthen a sales network that is still fragile. At the same time, the arrival of these brands is speeding up the transformation of Africa’s automotive sector, with new investments and reorganized supply chains.
