Chinese electric cars are an increasing threat to Ford and GM
Competitive costs, technology and production capacity are putting pressure on the two American giants in the electric-car market.
The advance of Chinese electric-car manufacturers represents an increasingly serious challenge for Ford and General Motors. Aggressive pricing, rapid technological development and high production volumes are allowing Asian brands to gain ground, especially in international markets.
For the US groups, the risk concerns margins, sales and industrial competitiveness. Tariffs and regulatory restrictions may slow the arrival of Chinese models, but they will not remove the pressure: Ford and GM will have to cut costs and speed up the renewal of their electric ranges.
