Electric Cars Under €20,000: Europe Takes on China
Renault, Volkswagen and other European automakers are preparing more affordable EVs to counter the advance of Chinese brands.
Europe’s electric-car market is entering the affordable-price phase. To respond to pressure from Chinese manufacturers, Renault, Volkswagen and other continental brands are developing battery-powered city cars priced below €20,000.
Among the most anticipated projects are the future electric Renault Twingo and Volkswagen ID.1, alongside compact models already approaching this threshold. The challenge involves cost, range and local production: making EVs genuinely affordable will be crucial to winning European drivers.
