Formula 1 is preparing to reduce Grand Prix distances during the first two seasons of the new technical era. In 2026 and 2027, races could be shortened by around 30 kilometres to manage the cars’ energy use and fuel consumption more effectively.

From 2028, the championship is expected to return to the standard distance of at least 305 kilometres, with the Monaco Grand Prix remaining an exception. The change is linked to the more electrified power units and the aim of avoiding overly conservative race strategies.
