German car crisis: Schaeffler to cut 4,700 jobs
The German automotive supplier will reduce its European workforce and close several sites amid weak demand and the shift to electric vehicles.
The crisis facing Germany’s automotive industry is also hitting Schaeffler. The component manufacturer plans to eliminate around 4,700 jobs across Europe, including 2,800 in Germany, as part of a restructuring programme.
The plan includes closing several production sites and merging other operations. Schaeffler cited weak demand, cost pressure and the transition to electric vehicles, which is reshaping the supply chain and putting many German suppliers under growing pressure.
