Honda’s electric challenge puts its motorcycle dominance under pressure
The Japanese giant remains a global benchmark, but electric motorcycles are changing the market’s rules, technologies and hierarchy.
For decades, Honda has built a dominant position in motorcycling through volume, reliability and a range covering every segment. The electric transition, however, is reducing the advantage of established manufacturers: new brands and specialist companies can compete with simpler, more innovative products.
Batteries, software and digital updates are becoming as important as engines and chassis. Honda has started developing zero-emission models, but it will need to move faster to defend its leadership in a market where experience alone is no longer enough.
