India sees electric cars and transport fuel consumption rise together
The spread of electric vehicles has not yet reduced demand for transport fuels in India.
In India, the growth of electric cars is advancing alongside higher sales of transport fuels. The expansion of mobility is therefore supporting both technologies.
The figures show that the electric transition is still at an early stage: new battery-powered registrations are increasing, but the existing vehicle fleet remains largely dependent on petrol and diesel. A much broader EV rollout will be needed to deliver a structural reduction in fuel consumption.
