Mansell wins the first F1 race in Catalunya

In 1991, Nigel Mansell won the first Formula 1 race held at the Catalunya circuit in Montmeló. Driving for Williams, the Briton finished ahead of Alain Prost after a fiercely contested race featuring several early battles.

Ferrari still secured a podium finish, but the result could not hide the disappointment of a less convincing finale than expected. Mansell’s victory strengthened his season and immediately established the Catalan track as an important venue on the calendar.
