Mercedes C 111: Driving the Sports Car That Never Reached Production
A drive in Mercedes’ famous prototype, where advanced engineering and striking design created a four-wheeled legend.
The Mercedes C 111 is one of the most famous prototypes in automotive history. Unveiled in the late 1960s, it stood out with its orange bodywork, gullwing doors and mid-mounted Wankel engine. It never entered series production: Mercedes used it as a test bed for performance, aerodynamics and new technical solutions.
Driving it means experiencing a car designed for experimentation rather than the compromises of a road-going model. Its driving position, engine response and extreme character still convey the spirit of an unfinished project that became an icon.
