Toprak Razgatlioglu’s move to MotoGP is already producing plenty of talking points. The Turkish rider, a two-time World Superbike champion, has reportedly shown such natural speed and confidence on the bike that people around the paddock feel he sometimes behaves like he has already been there for years. That is no small compliment in a class where newcomers usually need a long adjustment period.
Razgatlioglu arrives with a very distinctive riding style: aggressive, committed and built through seasons of fighting at the sharp end in production-based racing. That background makes him a different kind of rookie. He is not coming into MotoGP as an inexperienced youngster, but as a rider who is already used to intense pressure, tyre management and close-quarters battles. For Yamaha, which is aiming to rebuild its competitiveness in 2026, his arrival is both a technical gamble and a marketing boost, with the hope of challenging the benchmarks set by Ducati, Aprilia and KTM.
Of course, the leap from Superbike to MotoGP remains enormous. The premier class demands a different feel, more complex electronics and a far deeper level of competition. Still, the early signs suggest Razgatlioglu has the raw tools to adapt quickly. If he can turn that natural flair into consistent results, his debut season could become one of the most compelling stories on the grid.
