Road safety, a Daegu crash test shows the risks at 40 km/h
A dummy loses a leg in a motorcycle impact: Daegu tests illustrate the evolution of vehicle safety technology.
A speed of just 40 km/h is enough to turn a collision between a motorcycle and a car into a devastating impact. This was shown by a test carried out in Daegu, South Korea, where the dummy used in the simulation suffered the complete amputation of a leg.
The test is part of a programme focused on developing automotive safety. Real-world crash tests allow engineers to measure occupant injuries accurately and improve vehicle structures, restraint systems and driver-assistance devices, with the aim of reducing the consequences of crashes.
