Southeast Asia’s EV market may be far larger than reported
The region’s electric mobility could have a greater impact than official statistics currently suggest.
The electric-vehicle market in Southeast Asia may be much more developed than available data indicate. Statistics struggle to capture a fragmented region, where regulations and reporting methods vary significantly from one country to another.
The widespread use of electric scooters, commercial vehicles and locally built models also affects the overall picture. Chinese manufacturers, government incentives and new industrial investments are accelerating the sector’s transformation, making Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam markets to watch closely.
