On 16 October 2016, Lance Stroll ended the European Formula 3 season with a victory at Hockenheim. The Canadian had already secured the title and collected his 14th win of the year, completing a dominant campaign.
A few weeks later, Williams announced Stroll as a race driver for 2017 alongside Felipe Massa. The victory was therefore the final step in his junior single-seater career before his Formula 1 debut.
