Tesla Roadster flying car: how Musk’s project would work

During the presentation of the new Roadster, Elon Musk revived the idea of a Tesla able to briefly lift off the ground. The project, linked to the SpaceX package, is expected to use compressed-air thrusters positioned at the rear instead of conventional driven wheels.

The technology could deliver extreme acceleration and short airborne manoeuvres, but it would not turn the car into a flying taxi. Tesla has not announced a production date or certified the system for road or air use: for now, the Roadster remains a demonstrator project.
