Tesla’s Flying Roadster: Futuristic Promises Amid a Reputation Crisis
Tesla’s SpaceX-equipped sports car remains a project on paper as delays, controversy and growing skepticism weigh on the brand.
Unveiled in 2017, the second-generation Tesla Roadster remains tied to unconventional promises. Elon Musk has mentioned a SpaceX package with compressed-air thrusters capable of briefly lifting the car: this would not, however, be a true flying car designed for everyday use.
The project has yet to reach production at a difficult time for Tesla. Repeated delays and Musk’s political profile have fueled criticism, protests and doubts about the brand’s credibility. For now, the Roadster is mainly an announced technology showcase, not a vehicle ready to take off.
