UConn Health has announced the launch of a program dedicated to CAR-T therapy, an advanced form of immunotherapy. The treatment uses cells from a patient’s immune system, modified in a laboratory to recognize and attack cancer cells.
The initiative expands the treatment options available at the US center for certain oncological diseases. CAR-T therapy requires specialized facilities, trained staff and continuous clinical monitoring because of its complexity and potential side effects.
