UConn Health Launches New CAR-T Cell Therapy Program
The U.S. medical center introduces an advanced treatment that modifies a patient’s immune cells to fight cancer.
UConn Health has launched a program focused on CAR-T cell therapy, one of the most advanced areas of oncology. The treatment involves collecting the patient’s T cells, modifying them in a laboratory and then infusing them back into the body.
The engineered cells are designed to recognize and attack cancer cells. The therapy is used mainly against certain blood cancers and expands the options available to patients treated at the Connecticut center.
