Why 0-60 mph Became the Benchmark for Measuring Acceleration
The test born in the United States became a global reference, although Europe prefers the 0-100 km/h figure.
The 0-60 mph test measures how long a car takes to accelerate from rest to 60 miles per hour, or 96.6 km/h. The figure became established in the United States thanks to measuring equipment and the ease of comparing different models.
It is not a perfectly universal measurement: tyres, road surface, temperature, battery charge and launch settings can all affect the result. In Europe, 0-100 km/h remains more common and is very similar, but not identical. Both figures should therefore be treated as comparison tools rather than absolute performance data.
