Formula 1 2026: how the cars and engines will change
The new rules target more agile cars, active aerodynamics and hybrid power units with a greater electric contribution.
From 2026, Formula 1 will introduce more compact and lighter cars, with active aerodynamics replacing traditional DRS. Moving wings will help reduce drag on the straights and improve on-track battles.
The biggest change will concern the power units: the electric motor will play a much larger role, in an almost balanced system with the internal-combustion V6. Fully sustainable fuels will also be introduced. The new rules will coincide with Cadillac joining the grid as an eleventh team.
