Pakistan, electric bike production grows but the wider shift remains distant
Local industry is accelerating on e-bikes, while costs, charging infrastructure and uncertain policies are slowing electric vehicle adoption.
Pakistan is increasing local production of electric bicycles and motorcycles, a segment seen as strategic for reducing energy consumption and emissions in urban transport. The expanding supply points to growing interest from companies and buyers.
According to several lawmakers, however, production growth alone will not transform the country’s mobility. High prices, limited charging infrastructure, unreliable electricity and the lack of a stable policy strategy are still slowing the transition to electric vehicles. Without coordinated action, e-bikes will remain a growing niche rather than a mass-market solution.
